New York City may have the big ball drop, but Key West has three! The drinks will never run out and the party doesn’t stop until well past midnight. From drag queens to dachshunds, there’s no other place that celebrates the New Year like the Conch Republic. Here’s your guide to ringing in New Year’s Eve in Key West.

Annual Dachshund Walk
Start your New Year’s Eve in Key West with the World’s Shortest Parade! A mini party before the big events in the evening, the Annual Dachshund Walk is quite the site to see. About 200 long-bodied, short-legged Doxins gather together with their owners to strut their stuff in the streets. There is nothing more adorable to end the year with than hundreds of adorable dogs in costume! It all goes down on the 2 blocks from Whitehead and Fleming to Duval and Appelrouth Lane.
As midnight approaches, choose your favorite countdown. Deciding which event to see should be the only stress of the night!
Schooner Wharf
At Schooner Wharf, a pirate wench is lowered from the mast of an 100 ft schooner docked at the marina. The pirates, wenches and wannabes bring in the New Year with a cannon blast, followed by a releasing of the doves off the ship. Schooner Wharf bar will be packed, but there are several other party spots in the Historic Seaport neighborhood. Check out the brand new Waterfront Brewery for local beer and lots of space to breath.
Sloppy Joe’s Bar
The most popular attraction of the evening is the Conch Shell drop at Sloppy Joe’s Bar on the corner of Greene and Duval Street. Duval Street is closed to traffic so that locals and visitors alike can get together to celebrate the New Year. This particular drop luckily lies in close proximity to countless restaurants and bars. Check out Irish Kevin‘s just down the road, or Rick’s Bar across the street for a beverage to toast the event.
Bourbon Street Pub
Lastly, Sushi, a local drag queen, will descend from a balcony at Bourbon Street Pub in a giant stiletto shoe while confetti drops onto Duval Street. This one is broadcasted worldwide, and is perhaps the most unique experience. Nearby you’ll find the popular Green Parrot Bar, Aqua Nightclub, and Mangoe’s Restaurant.
Choose wisely! No matter what (or who) you’re watching drop from the sky, New Years Eve in Key West is a celebration to be remembered all year.
